A tangled web

Some people think well in terms of structure and ramification. The web is a beautiful medium for these people, being almost entirely composed of abstract inter-relationships of connected notions. Since its early days the web has spawned creative approaches to comprehending it, ways of visualising the vast tangle, ways of wringing function out of the potential to exchange notions, even ways of developing an economy out of simply looking.
I have always had a sneaky liking for the comparison made between traditional media and the internet, the first being broadcasting the second narrowcasting. doesn't bear scrutiny much anymore but it is a rich mental image worth applying sometimes.

So when I found the LZZR website I was particularly struck by the authors ability to find a 'new seam of value' in the admitedly rather dull subject of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). On the face of it this is all to do with "shouting out in torturous mediocrity" in an attempt to get noticed,, to make people focus on your own notions and by doing so make them seem valid. Where LZZR's little twist of creativity comes into effect is in re-evaluating the 'everyone for themselves' approach that mostly dominates peoples efforts towards success, and replacing it with an almost collective approach to helping others, and thereby improving everyones lot. This approach borders on socialism, or at least the philanthropic urges that caused the web to exist in the first place. LZZR has made a new line in the vast join the dots picture that is the internet, and because of it we can see a bit more of the whole picture.

I really appreciate the wealth of ideas spread in such a small post. I wrote a slightly more detailed reply here and thanks again :-)

BTW: where this Prickly Pear came from? - it tastes too familiar...
